    What is Crohn's Disease?


    Crohn's disease is known as ‘Grahani’ in ayurveda and Regional ileitis is another medico-term for it. Crohn's disease ‘Grahani’ is an inflammatory condition of the intestine that triggers ulcerations in  mucosal coating of the intestine and may affect any part of alimentary tract from mouth to anus.

    It is a sort of inflammatory bowel disease and can appear in any generation, age gathering or sex equally. 

    However, smokers are at high risk to build up it. Western or modern medicine hasn't proper solutions for Crohn's disease, but control with certain medications or surgical treatment are limited, and  may deliver some relief in an agonic condition.
    Additionally it is an autoimmune disorder, wherein body's immune system take action against gastro-intestinal tissues mainly on ileum, caecum & jejunam and because of this, intestinal swelling or ulceration, affected person may show different symptoms like stomach ache, loose motions, flatulence, weight reduction etc.

    Signs and Symptoms of Crohn's disease

    fissures, fistula etc.

    Factors behind Crohn’s Disease


    The exact reason behind Crohn's disease is undicovered. 

    No infection has been isolated but risk factors are subsequent -

    Excessive Cigarette, Biri, pipe etc. smoking.

    Environmental factors, urban or industrialized living.

    Abuse of Analgesics.

    Poor immune system.

    Malnutrition.

    Family history or genetic predisposition.

    Unhealthy food habits like irregular, irrelevant or incompatible 

    diet habits and more junk food.

    Anxiety and mental - stress.

    Trauma or Injury of intestines.

    Diagnosis of Crohn’s disease


    An identification or diagnosis of crohn's disease may be 

    tough because of its nonspecific signs  and symptoms.

    On account of crohn's disease, the following medical 

    investigation may help in the diagnosis of the disease -

    Stool tests.

    Blood tests.

    Biopsy.

    Sigmoidoscopy.

    Colonoscopy.

    Endoscopy - Video capsule endoscopy, Endoscopic 

    retrograde.

    Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP).


    Barium enema X-ray.

    Barium meal X-ray.

    Ultrasound of whole abdomen.

    CT scan.

    MRI test.

    Diet recommendation & Lifestyle Advice in Crohn’s disease


    A strict eating regimen and lifestyle modification or adjustment should be adopted by people, experiencing Crohn's disease as in step with their constitution, disorders, nature of work, environmental attitude, and physical situations.

    Drinking of cabbage juice is extra useful in the case of 

    crohn's disease.

    Flaxseed oil and fish oil has a superb impact on crohn's 

    disease because they're stuffed with Omega-3 fatty acids.

    By using of Boswellia inhibit inflammation of gut.

    Avoid smoking is a decent method to get better outcomes 

    regarding Crohn's disease.

    Isapgulla husk should be taken with cold water at night time 

    before going to bed. It help to offer stools more volumous.

    Eat easily digestible foods only and try to incorporate 

    buttermilk and curry leaves in your daily diet.

    Usually do not use alcoholic beverages like whisky, bear, 

    rum etc. and caffeinated drinks like tea, coffee etc.

    Keep away from spicy foods, greasy foods, hot foods, 

    sharp foods, fiber rich foods in the case of Crohn's disease.

    Some classical and established ayurvedic medicines like 

    shankh bhasm, mukta shukti bhasm, moti pisti, udra amrit 

    vati, etc. may bring an optimistic result in Crohn's disease.

    Practicing of yogic breathing excercises like Kapalbhati, 

    Anulom-vilom etc., Asanas or Meditation may be achieved to 

    get rid of mental tension, anxiety etc. and improve conditions.

    Try not to use any antibiotics or NSAIDs medicines without

     recommendation of a registered medical practitioner.

    Always drink boiled water.

    Take butter milk one glass + turmeric powder 1/4 th teaspoonful

    and 1/4 th teaspoonful roasted cumin seeds powder, and rock salt 

    2 gms. and intake it two times daily only in day time. Do not take 

    it at night time.

    Take cloves, cinnamon, green cardamom, dried ginger powder

    black pepper powder, and long pepper powder in equal volumes

    and half teaspoonful should be taken with a pinch of  Asafoeteda 

    churna and normal water two times daily after making a blend.

    Triphala churna is another ayurvedic formulation to care for 

    crohn's disease.

    Take celery seeds powder half teaspoonful, Indian gooseberry 

    powder half teaspoonful, and nutmeg 1/4th teaspoonful and make 

    a combination then consume it at bedtime with normal water.

    Body detoxification treatments like Panchkarma therapy should 

    be followed under supervision of an ayurvedic expert since 

    it restores wellness, minimises recurrence of the disease, 

    improves digestion, helps bring about immunity, rejuvenates 

    the body and mind as well.

    Shatavari / shatamull - Asparagus racemosus.

    Mulethi - Licorice - Glycyrrhiza glabra.

    Musta - Nut grass - Cyperus rotundus.

    Vacha - Sweet flag - Acorus calamus.

    Atis / Atees - Aconitum heterophyllum.

    Parpata - Indian Fumitory - Fumaria indica.

    Hribera / Valaka - Pavonia odorata.

    Aparajita - Asian pigeonwings - Clitoria ternatea.
