Diabetes is
a metabolic disorder where infact the human body either will not produce or
properly use insulin, a hormone that is required to convert glucose into energy. Diabetes is also known as silent - killer and could exist for many
years with no individual’s noticing it and so that a rough estimation that
1/3rd of people are unaware that they have the disease.
In
Ayurveda, diabetes mellitus is known as Madhu meha. Madhumeha is coupled with
two words (compound word) consisting of Madhu and Meha. Madhu - honey and Meha -
unnecessary excretion.
In the whole world, almost 20 - 25 % of the population are suffering from this disease. According to a medical report, in India more than 60 million people have problems with the elevated sugar condition and the number is just increasing day by day.

Types
of diabetes mellitus -
- Juvenile diabetes -
IDDM-Insulin depended diabetes mellitus type 1 -
Type-1 diabetes is sometimes called juvenile diabetes. It means that your body can’t produce insulin and helps your body turn the glucose from the meals you taken into a way to obtain energy. It occurs more often in children and young adults, but makes up about only 5 - 10% of the total diabetes cases countrywide. Insulin Dependent Diabetes Mellitus or Type 1 diabetes is result of decreased creation of hormone insulin by the pancreas.

NIDDM - Non- insulin depended diabetes mellitus type 2 -
Type 2 Diabetes
is also called Non-Insulin Dependent Diabetes Mellitus (NIDDM) or Adult-onset
Diabetes and results when insulin production is faulty and tissue resistance to
insulin develops. For most sufferers with Type-2 diabetes, daily insulin
supplementation is not needed. Diabetes is maintained by making modest and
average changes in exercise and diet. Both hereditary and environmental factors
resulting in its development and progression. It’s seen as an increased glucose
level in the blood due to deficiency or inactivity of hormone. Insulin that is completely
essential to support glucose metabolism of body.
Type 2 diabetes fundamentally occurs due to defective insulin secretion associated with faulty responsiveness of the body to the insulin which is well known as insulin resistance diabetes and highly associated with over weight problems.
