    What's Asthma/Shvasa roga?

    Asthma is named  ‘Shvas Roga’ in Ayurveda and it is a widespread chronic obstructive lung disease which is seen as a  shortness of breath, recurrent episodes of breathlessness followed with wheezing credited to narrowing of the airways, swelling of the respiratory tract  that reduces the space for respiration, allergies, build up of mucous around chest  etc. of a patient. The frequency of asthmatic  attacks varies from person to person and around 2.5 lakh people pass away every year as a result of this ailment.


    Causes of Asthma

    Genetic - Hereditary / A family history of asthma or allergy.
    Weakening of the lung tissues.
     Living in cool and moist environment.
    Things that trigger allergies - Air irritants, pollen, Inhaling fumes,smoke, strong smell, gases,molds, animal dander, grass,  hair, lint, grains, dust particles,contaminants, foods allergy etc.
    Pulmonary infections.
    Certain medications - aspirin,- ibuprofen , paracetamol(NSAIDs) etc.
    Sudden changes in atmosphere or weather  - Cold,  cold air etc.
    Trauma of  chest, throat etc.
    Cigarrete or BIRI smoking.
    Psychological factors and Digestive disorders.

    Signs & Symptoms  of Asthma

    Recurrent respiration  issues - Shortness of breath, Sign of cold like running nose, sneezing, nasal 

    congestion and sore throat,  Coughing, frequent cough during the night time, mucus production, chest 
    pain, Wheezing, a hissing sound at exhalation, chest tightness, prolonged expiration, breathlessness at 
    the time of asthmatic attack etc.
    Increased desires to have hot things.
    Dryness of mouth and Difficult in speaking

    Hereditary factor.
    Obesity / weight problems

    Eating regimen  & Lifestyle Advice

    Foods to be avoided - Animal Proteins, Sweets, Tomato, Salty Foods, Dairy Products like milk, buttermilk, curd, cheese, etc.  Ice-cream, cold foods, Watermelon, Banana, oily, fried, heavy, sticky, cold, mucous-producing foods, sour food, cold drinks, rice,  pastries, chocolates , pickles,  white flour, white sugar products, cold foods, cold drinks ,refrigerated foods, processed food etc.
    Vapor inhaling of  hot  water and caraway seeds dilate the bronchial passage.
    Juices of carrot and spinach  should be utilized as a part of  Asthma.


    Chyawanprash  and   Sitopladi Churna can be an advatageous solution for Asthmatic patients.


    Make a stratagic distance from perfumes, mosquito repellents, deodorants, aftershave lotions and air fresheners.

    Stay away from  over  sexual activities.

    Keep away from dusty , cold and moist places. For this reason, Bedroom should be well ventilated and clear from allergens.

    Take bath with lukewarm water for improvement of the circulation of blood.

    Vitamin supplements like  vit. A, B-12, E are should be taken.
    Alcoholic beverages like whisky, wine, beer, and smoking cigarrete , chewing tobacco, Gutka, Pan Masala, may incite  asthmatic invasion.

    Keep away from mental tension, anxiety, worries and stress.

    AC units and coolers are likewise dangerous and unsafe.

    Yogasanas like  Sarvangasana -Shoulderstand, Sirsasana -Headstand, Dhanurasana - The Bow Pose, Bhujangasana - The Cobra Pose, Pranayama, Kapalbhati, Meditation may be beneficial to reduce mental tension, stress,anxiety, grief etc.
